I'm in Chicago!
This is the view from my room. It is the crowning jewel of an otherwise very sad dorm room.
I think THREE separate photomemes all have a "self-portrait" theme this week. And since I haven't taken a decent self-portrait since December, I figured it was about time, anyway.

Thankful for: People who tell me how to work the freaking shower! Don't laugh--even when you think you've used every permutation of knobs, levers, switches, and handles to turn a bath into a shower, there's still one out there that you won't be able to figure out!

hey!
good luck with your newness
will you get to draw more interesting 'bits' of anatomy?
With any luck. ;)
I think it's a lovely shot. And I'm not just saying that because it's your first post from Chicago. It really has a nice balance between light and dark, between foreground and background, and between "space" and "stuff." Having the horizon exactly in the middle works well, with you looking down on it. And it's a great pose, with a wonderful splash of color (your favorite bright blazing teal). The lighting on you is terrific.
In my opinion, this is by far the most visually appealing picture of you that you've posted. (And, since I suspect you need reminding: I have liked other pictures of you. I especially like this one.)
somehow, i find it a bit disconcerting to see such a straightforward image of you... weird...
on, for what it is worth, the framing is very strong graphically... in my experience/opinion, a centered figure tends to make the rest of the image less "viewable"... (i.e., we don't give it much attention as we, instead, look at the figure)... your image strikes a good balance by pushing the figure to the edge, drawing attention to the larger part of the image...
out of curiosity, was this image cropped or is that what you shot?...
John- Awwwww. Thank you. :)
After an afternoon of having unflattering ID photos taken of me, I decided that my ego needed some stroking. I'm generally unphotogenic.
The shirt is actually slightly greener than my favorite color. But it's still a nifty shade of green-blue.
m- It's cropped. I framed it as best I could, but there was part of a wall on the left-hand side that I just didn't care for.
The straightforwardness of the image kind of bugs me, too, but I find self-portraits difficult to approach from any other angle.
why its, its, its yoouuuuu.
hmmm ... i have no technical input. can i just say 'hey, kick ass s/p!' and good luck? :)
Sure you can. Just as long as you tell me what "s/p" means.
I'm pretty sure he means self-portrait. (And it does so totally kick ass.)
that is indeed what i meant. :)
